Family Fun Day - inspiring children to play and learn

Our inaugural Family Fun Day event brought out over 400 people to the Kids Gallery campus at Kowloon Tong on Sunday 29 May to inspire children to play and learn.

The day was a joint project between Bizibuz and Kids' Gallery, with event participation from Little Scientists, LaLiga Football School and Bring Me A Book Hong Kong, a non-profit advocate for family literacy and recipient of the net proceeds of ticket sales.

The goal was to provide children aged 1-12 years of age with the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities to unleash imagination and creativity. The venue was abuzz with excitement as children roamed the ten activity areas starting with the Little Scientists experiment marquee and Bring Me A Book’s reading corner. Then they headed inside for Bizibuz’s digital games and Kids’ Gallery’s rooms which ranged from Toppee Town storytelling for children as young as 1 year of age to free flow art to themed performances of Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, The Wizard of Oz, and Neverland for all ages.

Upon entering the venue, the Little Scientists activity marquee captivated kids with aerodynamic experiments using an air cannon. The kids were so excited to participate in a science experiment, the curiosity to learn was palpable.

The Bring Me A Book area had children mesmerized by professional children’s book readers. Storytellers treated the kids to two stories:  "While We Can’t Hug" and "We Found A Hat".

Just inside the building entrance, the Bizibuz activity room was jammed with children having fun playing our digital games (shhh don’t tell them the games are really decision support tools for their parents!). The motor skill game of tracing and pong for 6-9 year olds had the kids laughing and begging for more attempts.

The early years games on iPad were in even hotter demand as the 3-6 year olds dragged and dropped, and touched and laughed... all while being assessed on language, literacy, and early cognitive skills.

The 9-12 year olds were more serious with their digital games, competing for the best benchmarked performance in Maths, Science, English, Chinese, Humanities, Technology, Visual Arts and Music.

And of course parents were fascinated to read about the insights the digital games yielded in terms of their child’s proficiencies!

Kids’ Gallery had the very early learners entranced with Toppee's Town story telling.

The parents enjoyed an air conditioned chill out room where the fathers were particularly keen to learn about the school run by the world’s first professional football league – LaLiga Football School, the ultimate training school for all aspiring young football stars.

The creative genius emerging in the free flow visual arts area was impressive as kids decorated bookmarks and stuck them on a giant tree!

The children kept us all entertained with a talented display of singing with the scarecrow song in the Wizard of Oz room and pirate ship renditions in the Neverland room.

The Charlie & the Chocolate Factory artwork had us all convinced the kids were  wandering around with giant blocks of chocolate. The themed wonderlands clearly transported the kids to a world where confidence and imagination reigned supreme.

We hope all our parents and children had a truly fabulous Family Fun Day!
